Not knowing who you’re talking to is very problematic.
Think about how you talk to your friends. Now compare that with how you would speak to your boss. Effectively communicating means tailoring our overall language–the message, choice of words, general tone, etc.–to fit whoever we are talking to.
The same rings true when implementing any marketing program–whether it’s through traditional marketing, social media, content marketing, etc. Knowing your audience is fundamental; it’s at the core of your business’ Marketing 101.
Wait, what audience? Let’s back up.
A successful business know their target audience–these include customers, fans, collaborators, brand evangelists. Simply put, your audience is anyone you and your business are trying to reach.
They are the ones you’re speaking with when writing your business communications, your blog post, your social media updates, your newsletters; they’re the one’s you keep in mind when designing your services.
You want to make sure that it is clear to you and your whole organization who you’re trying to reach when crafting any communication or marketing materials.
